Since the year 1400, white peacocks have been residing at Staverden Castle in the Netherlands. This came about when the Duke of Gueire allowed the castle to be his lavish forest home on the condition that it continues to house white peacocks to supply feathers for his helmet. These feathers are now gifted annually to the Commissioner of the Queen in Gelderland.
